I’M NOW ON FACEBOOK. Come to and look around. Hope you “like me.”

In Jade del Cameron’s 4th mystery adventure, THE LEOPARD’S PREY, the reader met a perky telephone operator (Hello Girl) named Nancy. Seen at a dance, she was a prototype of the future flapper, provocatively dressed, flirtatious. One can easily imagine her with a wad of chewing gum in her mouth. And the gum of choice?

The February 18, 1922 edition of The Leader of British East Africa answers that with their advertisement for Wrigley’s Chewing Gum. Touted to possess an amazing array of benefits, it not only sweetened the breath and cleansed teeth, it assisted digestion. But perhaps for sport conscious Nairobi, what was more important was that it was “indespensible (sic) to athletes."

One can only imagine the benefits to an athlete suffering from bad teeth, bad breath, and bad indigestion.

Next week: More fun ads

The Crocodile’s Last Embrace received a starred review by Publishers’ Weekly who called it “rip-roaring.” Romantic Times gave it 4 Stars and called it “Enormously fun” and Library Journal’s starred review stated “Do not miss this one.”
